Unlike many vaccines, the seasonal flu vaccine is updated every year to protect against the flu strains expected to circulate that winter.
For winter 2026-27, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended changes to all 3 strains included in the vaccine. These changes have affected manufacturing timelines and mean some vaccines are expected to arrive later than usual.

Not all flu vaccines are produced in the same way, which means availability varies. Some of the vaccines traditionally used for workplace programmes are expected later than usual, while alternative vaccine options should be available sooner.
